Bodybuilding Leeds student looking for likes in online fitness competition

One Leeds student hopes to gain the edge over competitors in the search for Britain’s most athletic student.

‘Do you even lift’ is not a question that could be asked of second year student Justin Bland.

His entry for the Mr University 2014 competition speaks for itself:

The contest describes itself as ‘the first and only UK university based fitness competition’. It aims to celebrate sport and healthy lifestyles.

Justin is up against 20 other hench males in the Men’s Physique category. The public vote counts towards the competition, so with close to 400 likes, the battle is on.

So, who is the man behind the muscle? Rather appropriately: a sport and exercise science student.

A keen selfie taker when not working out

Justin single handedly defies every stereotype levelled at students who are viewed as unhealthy and lazy.

Justin told The Tab how he prioritises training hard and healthy eating, because “Usually the physique comes first.”

For him, dieting is more than simply clutching an overpriced meal from the union’s Salad Box. It means he has to “Have my tupperware with me all the time regardless of where I am.”

A real life six pack – and not the Budweiser kind

For many Leeds students whose evening routine consists of heavy drinking followed by Zulfis, this would be quite a shock to the system.

But for Justin, a regular at The EDGE, preparing every meal the night before and waking up extra early to workout, is just a day in the life of a bodybuilder.

The Tab wishes him the best of luck in the upcoming competition!
