Man charged with attempted murder in Hyde Park police shooting

Policewoman was shot and injured in the earlier hours of Wednesday morning in the Hyde Park area of Leeds.


A man has appeared in court today charged with the attempted murder of a policewoman and her male colleague.

James Leslie, 37, spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth and to indicate he understood the charges against him during the two-minute hearing.

He is accused of the attempted murder of 33-year-old policewoman PC Suzanne Hudson, who was shot and injured after she was called to a disturbance in the Hyde Park area of Leeds at around 4am on Wednesday morning.

Leslie is also accused of the attempted murder of PC Richard Whiteley, who also attended the incident but escaped unhurt.

Hudson is thought to have been shot with a sawn-off shotgun through a glass door from a house on Cardigan Road.

She is still in hospital but her condition is said to be stable.

Lesle is also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life; possession of a prohibited firearm, criminal damage and cannabis possession.

Leslie was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on December 20.
