Leeds Met Officially change name

Met are having a name change. What are we supposed to shout at Varsity now?

It’s official – Met are changing their name to Leeds Beckett University next year.

The Uni will be named after Beckett Park in Headingley where the main campus is based.

The shock move comes after Met claimed they had “outgrown” their old name earlier this year.

Maybe they’ll put capitals on the sign this time?

Beckett beat off competition from the similarly awful names Leeds Ridings and Leeds Headingley University.

Unsurprisingly a 2013 report suggested using the name “Metropolitan” “indicated a lower quality product.”

It also said a renaming would have a “positive impact on student recruitment”.

These angry students will need a new look next year

Leeds Met’s Vice Chancellor Susan Price, said: “Beckett Park is where a number of our predecessor colleges were established, the first being the City of Leeds Training College which welcomed its first students in 1913 and is still home to our Headingley Campus.”

She added: “This development is the next exciting milestone in our university’s rich history.”
