What a Bunch of Rankers!

We’ve been slammed in the world university rankings… again.

For us Leeds students a lack of academic recognition is hardly new – but this time things are just silly.

The so-called analysts at The Times Higher Education World University rankings smashed us into the educational abyss, placing Leeds at 139th place.

Earlier this year we were just clinging to a top 100 spot in the QS rankings, but have been dropped 40 places in this new list.

The survey ranks universities based on “carefully calibrated performance indicators.”

Here’s a short list of unis which are (shockingly) above us:

  • How did that happen? Manchester are flying high at 58th
  • No words… Sheffield are almost 30 places higher than us in 112th place
  • Our not-so-friendly neighbours York come in at 100th
  • A Dutch place you’ve probably never heard of beats us comfortably: Groningen is 98th

One of the few positives is that we saw off Russell Group competition from Newcastle, Liverpool, Warwick and Exeter.

At the other end of the table California institute of Technology came out on top, with Harvard and Oxford just behind in joint second.

Unsurprisingly the “world class” performance table does not include Leeds Met this year.
