Student robbed at knifepoint in Hyde Park

Phone stolen in daylight mugging

A student was mugged at knifepoint in Hyde Park on Saturday afternoon.

The victim was threatened by a man wearing a balaclava before being  told to hand over their phone.

The student, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Tab: “It was still light and there were people walking into Hyde Park so I decided to cut through.”

“The mugger said “Give me your phone”, I didn’t know whether to try and run, but within two seconds he pulled a small cutting knife with a 4cm blade out of his pocket and squared up to me. I gave it to him.”

Before the student was able to get help, the mugger had sprinted away.

A police spokesperson said: “At 4.41 on the 2nd November a man was threatened with a knife and their phone was handed over.”

The suspect was described as an Afro-Caribbean male wearing a black hooded top and black jeans.
