Fruity phone thief caught in the act

Union pickpocket arrested after snatching 14 phones

A pickpocket was caught red handed with 14 mobile phones stuffed down his trousers in the Union last Friday.

Leeds University Union security detained a 22 year old man at the freshers’ week Fruity.

The thief was revealed to be a non-student local, targeting students.

Bars and Venues manager Stephen Keeble said: “We are pleased that the fast action of our staff has led to an individual being charged by the police and has enabled a number of students to be reunited with their property.”

A spokesperson from Yorkshire Police said: “The incident demonstrates the valuable role that University security play working in partnership with local police.”

The thief has been charged with 12 counts of theft and is due to appear in court.
