Leeds loses out in world uni rankings

97th place. Is this some sort of sick joke?

Brace yourselves. The QS World University Rankings have shown up just before term starts to remind us we’re not as good as we think.

Leeds have barely broken into the top 100 universities in the world, pulling up at a measly 97th place.

Last year we managed to reach a slightly more respectable 94th in the same survey.

But on the plus side we saw off Russell Group competition from York, Newcastle and Liverpool.

At the other end of the table Massachusetts Institute of Technology came out on top, leaving Harvard, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial just behind.

Oxford were devastated after failing to make the top five.

Hilariously Leeds Met didn’t even make the survey, meaning QS consider them to be ranked lower than 701st in the world.
