Union to Vote on Banning Naked Calendars

Motion to appear at Better Union Forum stating naked calendars disrespect women.

Naked calendars – a source of great funding for societies, and great viewing for students – could be banned come next year.

This evening the Better Union Forum will vote on a measure to censor nudity in any adverts or posters in the Union.

Campaign posters like this could get the cut

If the motion passes, it could mean naked calendars and any campaign posters involving nudity will be banned.

The proposal states: “Commoditizing women for profits and sales is a disrespect to the women community as a whole.”

If the idea passes, naked calendars could be axed

This has been met with mixed reactions from students.

Billie Mckenzie said “Sex may sell, but that doesn’t mean that it should be encouraged at university. I think it’s degrading, and the nude posters are embarrassing to have up on open days.”

Though Hannah Ratcliffe said “Everyone should have freedom of expression, if you don’t like it then don’t look!”
