Review: Mum, Dad… it’s The Leeds Tealights

A run down of all the fun at the Library pub this week – including comedy sketches from ‘Twins’ and ‘The Tealights’.

Jack and Annie of 'Twins'

Jack and Annie of ‘Twins’

The night opened with the duo ‘Twins‘ and well… they were so shit, they made me –the previously open minded reviewer- waltz on stage and pretend to be a piano!

I lie, they weren’t shit. Prior to this (and after too) they were very funny- well Jack was funnier, Annie was just acting to be honest. Both are Tealights alumni, and according to themselves ‘unemployed’ and wanting to make it as actors. They’ve got the potential without a doubt.

Best bits:

  • Their rendition of everyones favourite Matilda was very funny, and did put me off seeing it again a wee little bit.
  • The tooth fairy- Jack’s decision to start up a totally novel business with the idea of exchanging teeth for a £1 with no profit involved was pretty funny.

Then on came the Tealights, presumably a little bored of performing since this was their third show on the trot and they’d been busy performing in Camden over Easter, but if they were they didn’t show it and still kept the energy going and put on a cracker.

The sketches were good and well written and lines remembered well (maybe give or take a few.. oops). And over all the Tealights were very loud and forcing an even louder laughter.

Best bits:

  • Hugh was particularly good; the annoying wannabe radio DJ, the even more annoying TV producer or thinker-upperer or whatever it was, or just generally his fantastic dance moves at the begining!
  • Pez and Joe’s sketch of a parting lesbian couple was particularly good, even they couldn’t contain the laughter!
  • Finally the three P’s from the worlds most dreadful motivational speaker was something to remember!

Overall it was great comedy and excellent acting too, with some especially strong characters at the forefront. Three cheers for last night!
