Union smashes UK record

Union election breaks the UK record for number of votes in a student election.

This year’s Union leadership race has once again become the UK’s biggest student election.

Leeds smashed the national record with over 11,000 votes, with a third of students hitting the polls to make their voice heard.

Antony Haddley, the current Union Affairs Officer told The Tab, “I’m absolutely over the moon. We’ve got the best students in the country and we’ve proved it yet again.”

Education candidate  Alice Smart agreed, saying, “It’s fantastic, Leeds now has a hat-trick of record breaking results after setting the UK record in every year since 2011.”

Activities candidate Jack Bell added, “It’s fantastic, there’s such a great turnout. The buzz on campus has been amazing and I’m cream crackered.”

However Union Affairs candidate Sabrina Poole was less positive, telling The Tab, “This still means around 2/3 of students are disengaged or disinterested.”

The results are to be announced at 6pm tomorrow in the Union. We’ll let you know whats up.
