Still think feminism is finished? Think again.

A statement from Freya Potter, one of the organisers of the campaign in Leeds

Leeds University Union’s Feminist Society followed Oxford’s OUSU Women’s Campaign by hitting back against the patriarchy with their own pro-feminist slogans.

Equality may seem an obvious goal, but we remain far from reaching it

Members of the public were photographed inside the Union and in other locations on campus holding whiteboards which read ‘I need feminism because…’, in an attempt to raise awareness of issues facing women and society in today’s world.

Inequality is still present in our legal system

Feminist Society’s next meeting is at 5 on Monday in the Union common room.

Freya Potter, one of the event’s organisers told The Tab:

‘Hopefully our campaign will mean that people who don’t identify with feminism can read our boards and realise that in so many ways, inequality and sexism affects us all.’

Union Affairs Officer Antony Hadley gets involved

Statistically 1 in 3 women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime. This is no joke.

Tired of being ‘cat-called’?

1 in 7 female students are victims of serious sexual assault or serious physical violence

Some statements were bolder than others’

Feminism is not purely a women’s issue

Equality and Diversity Exec gives her support

Only 6.5% of reported rapists are being convicted and an estimated 95% of cases go unreported
