Suspected firearm incident causes Lancaster Police to instruct residents to stay inside

An incident involving a suspected firearm in Lancaster last night has lead Police to cordon off Patterdale Road and Ridge Square shops.

Police found damage consistent with that of a shotgun on a car on Ennerdale Close.

It has been reported that no-one was injured in this incident.

Following the incident, a BMW car, believed to have been stolen earlier in the evening from a property in the Bay Horse area, was driven from the scene. It was later found off Meldon Road in Heysham.

In a post on Facebook, the Lancaster Area Police stated, “We were called around 10.30pm yesterday (Wednesday, January 25) to a report of two gunshots being discharged close to a property in Patterdale Road. Around the same time, a report was received of a gunshot being discharged in Ennerdale Close.”

An eyewitness told the Lancaster Guardian, “I have a friend who lives on Patterdale Road and she has been told she must remain in her property unless she has an essential appointment.”

At this time there have been no arrests relating to the incident, and enquiries are still ongoing.

Lancashire Police’s Detective Superintendent Becky Smith stated: “We believe this is a targeted attack, with no risk to the wider public. We have increased patrols in the area and you should expect to see a visible police presence in the coming days.

“We will not tolerate this behaviour in our communities and a dedicated team of detectives are working to identify those responsible to ensure they are put behind bars.”
