Further wave of protests against rising cost of living held in Lancaster

Energy prices are set to rise by 54 per cent in April

A further round of protests were held in Lancaster against the rising energy prices at the start of April, on Saturday 5th March.

The government are set to increase the current energy prices by 54 per cent, which will affect households across the country.

The Lancaster Guardian said that the rally saw protesters gather in the market square, with some holding up placards saying, “freeze prices not the poor” and “put people before profit”.

Protest organisers have said that the next step in their campaign is to attend the national rally in Blackpool on Saturday 19th March at 10 am, and said: “All the government ministers making these decisions will be in the Blackpool Winter Gardens that weekend, while outside will be thousands of protestors and trades unionists from all over the country. We will make our voices heard”.

There will be a coach leaving from Lancaster at 9 am to take protesters to the TUC national cost of living crisis demonstration in Blackpool, which gathers under the slogan of “Britain Needs A Pay Rise” next to Blackpool Tower.

Protesters have also vowed to be out in the streets of Lancaster again on Saturday 3rd April for a third wave of protests, when the price cap is lifted and the costs do rise.
