Petition to impeach Ben Evans after vote of no confidence has over 230 votes

Ben Evans is VP for activities

Lancaster students have launched a vote of no confidence against the VP Activities, Ben Evans. The vote of no confidence is a result of claims stating that Evans is no longer representing students.

The vote was started by Lancaster student, Atree Ghosh, who claims that Evans no longer represents students. He told The Lancaster Tab: "He was useless when societies were trying to do anything earlier in the term".

During the live-streamed executive committee meeting, discussing issues such as the Sugarhouse sale and its consequent referendums, Evans could have voted by proxy. Evans did not, but he was seen to be active in the live chat.

Ghosh said: "He is not filling in on his weekly objectives so we have no idea what he is doing for us anymore.

"The fact that he's permanently hidden himself away upstairs so that he is not easily available for students to speak to about their issues and to work with the rest of the officers as a collective is the reasoning behind the petition."

Evans' manifesto for the paid position of VP Activities states that he aims "to tackle a variety of barriers that impact involvement in sport, such as financial and space barriers."

Whilst promoting his campaign with #SeeTheBENefits, the vote went live and gathered over 100 votes in 24 hours. It has now reached 235 votes.

A students' union spokesperson told The Lancaster Tab: "The Students' Union is aware of a petition that has been launched on the union website. We will follow the correct procedures stated in our Articles of Association and Bye-Laws. It would be inappropriate to make any further comment that may prejudice this process."
