A top academic has been charged with two counts of attempted murder against a little boy – aged just six.

Kerry Fenton tried suffocating the boy in the Kirkham area in July last year, and tried to strangle him again just last month.

After the first incident, Fenton, 43, was released on bail.

Kerry Fenton, who headed up the Postgrad Academic Department, has been suspended from Lancaster University after working here for eight years.

Her roles included developing policies, systems and structures to support current and projected strategic targets for postgraduate provision.

Fenton is due to appear in front of the Preston Crown Court on the 18th of this month.

Her lawyer has said there will be a bail application, but it is unlikely she will be given bail for a second time.
