Incoming King’s College freshers: Here’s a definitive ranking of all King’s accommodations

Hayloft Point is the GOAT

Just got into King’s but don’t have a clue where to live? You’re about to get a full breakdown of every King’s College accommodation to make your decision so much easier.

I do genuinely think that in comparison to other universities in London, King’s does have the better of a bad bunch in terms of student accommodation. I remember that in conducting my research when I was choosing my options for UCAS, that other London uni’s were on a far worse end of the scale, in comparison to King’s, for available accommodations.

Yes, they are all ridiculously expensive. However, I’ve found that even though they might be dingy and a bit meh, location wise they are all 1000 per cent better on this imaginary scale of mine; (the views can be immaculate too). So, if you’re an upcoming fresher or existing student who has either booked a room already, or is trying to snag a room now A-Level Results Day has hit, here I am to make you feel better (or worse) about your decision.

Here’s everything you need to know about King’s College accommodation

11. Wolfson House

When I say my Dad stayed here during his first year at King’s back in 1989, I’m not lying. It’s THAT old. I’ve heard stories from him and recent students living there and I’ve got to say, their experiences don’t sound that much different. Apart from it’s unreal zone 1 location in London Bridge and superior walking distance from Guy’s Bar, that’s about it. It’s giving prison cells. I don’t even want to know how many boys have peed in their bedroom sinks.

10. Julian Markham

This accommodation is such an NPC. I think I only know like one person who lived there. It’s a classic Unite Students building, complete with the ugly patterned curtains and wooden furniture. I bet the fire alarm goes off at 3am and you all have to evacuate in your pyjamas, poor things.

9. Canada Water

This accommodation is so expensive and for what? To be in Canada Water? The Jubilee line is a bit silly too, an actual TREK to campus. Sending thoughts and prayers to Canada Water victims. It looks nice, and I’m sure it is, but the TFL fares would drive me up the wall. I think this accommodation is better suited to second or third years, rather than freshers. I don’t feel like there would be much social activity going on.

8. Atlas

Another NPC. Apart from being close to Fire and Light, which is an ultimate Freshers’ Week destination, what is there to do in Vauxhall, seriously? I’ve got nightmares from waiting so long for the 343 back to Hayloft in first year at the bus station. Boujee, nonetheless. I think it’s more of a scene for the post-grad crowd.

7. Orchard Lisle

If you’re on Guy’s campus, this accommodation is pretty perfect for you. Roll out of bed for your 9am perfect. I’ve not heard of any horror stories or bad things from here. I just think if you’re looking to be a social freshie, you’ll probably have to travel to other accommodations for pre drinks.

6. Stamford Street Apartments

Now I know for a fact, the 3am fire alarm is a frequent occurrence here. But, you do have the Franklin-Wilkins Library and a King’s gym across the road, which I think could make up for the single beds. SSA is VERY social.

5. Moonraker Point

Moonraker is extremely expensive, in my opinion. But before Hayloft, Moonraker was the one. You are living the life here – huge double room and ensuite. It’s a classic Unite Building and is tucked away a bit, but for the most part, is a good accommodation. There will be that one flat who has a party every week, without a doubt.

4. Battersea

king's college accommodation

New King’s College accommodation? Hello. I feel like I can’t rank this too high or too low considering no one has actually stayed there yet. I’m ranking this pretty high personally because Battersea is a 10/10 location and it looks pretty cool on the website. Freshers, I want reviews ASAP. £370 per week for an ensuite double room though? Welcome to London, for real.

3. Angel Lane

Stratford is a pretty peak location. However, everyone I know who has stayed here has liked it. It’s a pretty mixed bunch I feel like, in terms of the different kinds of people who stay here, but I know they all have a good time. It’s not overpriced and is just a reliable, long-standing, KCL accom.

2. Great Dover Street Apartments

You will become a regular at Dover Castle. You will be at GB every Wednesday. You will miss your Thursday 9am. All are GDS Residents rites of passage. At GDS you sacrifice comfortability and your dignity for your social life. Good luck, soldiers.

1. Hayloft Point

I stayed here during my first year so I am bias. Battersea could be the new Hayloft, as we too, were the first year of incoming students after opening. You can’t really fault Hayloft. Except, the ONE laundry room for the thousands of students living there, or the room that they call a gym. Retrieving your parcel is sometimes a bit of an experience too. Yet, you will have the best social life compared to all of your friends at other accommodations and you WILL make friends for life.

Out of all the King’s College accommodation choices, this is definitely the GOAT. I miss Hayloft Point.
