Victoria Station evacuated due to unexploded WWII bomb

The station was blocked off with police tape this morning

Victoria Station was closed this morning after a bomb scare.

The station was evacuated and Victoria Line services suspended after an unexploded WWII bomb was found nearby.

Entrances were blocked with police tape and commuters were helped to safety by underground staff.

The Victoria Line posted on Twitter: “Victoria station – Closed while we respond to a security alert outside station.”

People were told to head to a secure “zone 1”, but then moved to a “zone 2” further down Victoria Street.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: “Officers are in attendance at a building site on Terminus Place, SW1 following the discovery of what is believed to be World War 2 ordnance.”

The station has now reopened.
