Why you should join The Tab King’s next term

New year, new you

KCL kings tab

If you want to write about the stories students at King’s care about, then The Tab King’s is the place for you.

The Tab King’s is the biggest student paper on campus, with over 130,000 readers last month.

Since 2013, we’ve been bringing King’s students the gossip they need to know – whether it’s about our university being rebranded, or a cat on the loose at Stamford Street – and 2016 is set to be our biggest year yet.

You don’t need any writing experience – our editors will help you get started on your first article. And once you’re part of the team, you’ll be invited to our weekly meetings and socials, which are a great opportunity to meet new people at King’s and other London unis (although we understand if you don’t want to be friends with anyone at UCL).

Our best writers can also gain invaluable work experience opportunities at The Tab’s head office in Shoreditch and at a number of national newspapers.

With sites at 60 UK universities and 26 colleges in the U.S. and Canada, there’s never been a better time to join the world’s fastest growing student news network.

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what some of our writers have to say.

Sara Kamouni, Editor

“Working at The Tab King’s is without a doubt the best thing I’ve done at uni. Student media can be really daunting, especially when you’re new and you haven’t got a lot of experience – but The Tab is different.

“The Tab is absolutely committed to developing anyone who joins into a professional-standard journalist, regardless of their experience.

“I started writing for The Tab King’s just over a year ago, and now I’ve gained experience at The Tab HQ, Sky News, The Sun and South West News Service. I wouldn’t have any of this if it wasn’t for the incredible support of the people at The Tab’s head office.

“So, if you want to be a journalist, joining The Tab is an absolute no-brainer. If you don’t want to be a journalist, join anyway – we have a lot of fun!”

Jordan Davies, Deputy Editor

“I couldn’t imagine being at uni without The Tab. It turns student life into humorous, witty, interesting and inspiring stories  that are relatable to hundreds and thousands of students – and that you can’t live without.

“Reading it is as much of a daily necessity as waking up and going to sleep.”

Indigo Ellis, former Editor

“The Tab King’s is the best way to gain writing experience and see your byline out there. The meetings and socials mean you end up with a diverse group of friends, all from different courses and years!”

Teuta Hoxha, Reporter

“I started university this September and I didn’t expect to get a writing gig so soon or even in my first year.

“It’s been wonderful writing for The Tab. I’ve had the opportunity to speak to so many people and to cover stories that are truly inspiring. My editors are absolutely brilliant and it’s really nice to have such a strong network of people supporting your writing ambitions.

“It’s also given me a confidence boost to send pitches to other newspapers, and I’ve already had my work published in The Guardian.”

Ruth Beddow, Reporter

“Being part of The Tab has given me the opportunity to write about some of the things I really care about – sometimes serious but more often humorous – and get them out to a wide audience both at King’s and nationally.

“A couple of my articles have had over 20,000 page views each, which really boosted my confidence, along with the feedback and advice I’ve been given by the editors.

“The Tab has given me valuable but relaxed and enjoyable journalistic experience. Even more than that, I’ve had the chance to meet some great people who are always able to spark off new ideas for me.”
