You wouldn’t sit and watch your mum bake for an hour, would you? I mean literally sit, stare, watch. So why do people insist on doing it to people they’ve never met?

However if you are inclined to fill your weeknights with Paul Hollywood and soggy bottoms, you might have noticed Tamal Ray, the 29-year-old Hertfordshire heartthrob and King’s College graduate.

Tamal already has his own online fandom

The owner of GBBO’s best beard is a trainee anaesthetist, and describes himself as a “fuzzy haired doctor and lover of cake”.

Tamal has been igniting passions in middle-aged women across the country, so I asked my GBBO watching housemates to help me understand the buzz around tasty Tamal.

So what makes him so, y’know, special? Women all over the country yearn for him, men envy him, and bakers want to be him. I asked my flatmates to find out more.

Me: I’ve been on Twitter, April, and I’ve seen some women crying out for a Tamal of their own. Your opinions?

April May: When I’m watching, I think “what great sex appeal.” I often think of how sexy his cakes look, too. Great beard, great cakes.

Me: What has been your favourite Tamal moment?

Peter: When he rang his ma to tell her that he had got Star Baker. Great moment, proper swelling up, like.

Pete and April, n’aw

Me: Has Bake Off inspired you in life?

April and Pete together: Yes! We’ve made 4 cakes together in our life together in the Stratford ends.

Sounds like it won’t be long until they’ve got a little something else in the oven too. I personally found it beautiful how Bake Off was able to bring these two together, so early on into their fresher lives.

But that’s just the power of Tamal.
