Top KCL academic is Florence Welch’s mum

The rumours are true

Our Vice President of Arts and Humanities is the mum of Florence Welch – bohemian front woman of Florence and the Machine

Evelyn Welch is a professor of renaissance studies at KCL, joining from Queen Mary in January 2013.

And King’s students are amazed at the news she’s the mum of the fiery red head.

Wendela, is obviously a fan of the Spectrum singer. She told The Tab: “OH MY GOD –  Florence Welch’s mum?! I have to meet her!”

Zarin told us: “It’s weird right? Really cool.. But weird! I knew she was a professor but I didn’t know it was at King’s!”

“I absolutely love Florence and the Machine. I think this is really cool!” an excited James told us.

Before coming to KCL, Florence’s mum studied Renaissance History at Harvard, before getting her PHD from Warburg Institute.

Mummy Welch joins King’s from Queen Mary, University of London where she is Vice-Principal for Research and International Affairs.
