How to master the NoMakeupSelfie

Want to support the cause whilst keeping your social media reputation in tact? Here’s how

The #NoMakeUpSelfie trend has taken over social media as thousands of women pose bare faced in support of Breast Cancer. Guys claim to prefer a woman naturally in the absence of make-up but how can we post a picture on the internet that will permanently be displayed there without looking absolutely horrific and ruining our social media reputation? Do not fear!

Here are the top five tips to mastering a no-make up selfie:

1. Lighting

Take the selfie in a location where the lighting is most favourable to your skin tone. For daytime pictures, usually standing opposite a window ensures bright photographs (hopefully bright enough to overshadow any spot break outs). Night-time pictures in coloured rooms is great because the colour of the room will reflect onto your selfie and therefore provide you with a natural filter.

Coloured bedrooms always come in handy

2. Temperature

Select the time you take the picture carefully. Don’t take it immediately after a shower. This is because hot water highlights any blotches and blemishes so wait until your skin has cooled down and returned to room temperature.

3. Pose

Do smile and look like you are happy and proud of your natural face because lets face it you are not going to pull off the hot and glamorous look in the absence of make up so steer well away from the pouts. Also, confidence shines through so keep that head up girl!

4. Angle

Getting the right angle is one of the most important aspects. This depends on your own physical strengths/flaws. Flaunt your best feature! If it’s your cheekbones take it from a side angel. If it’s your eyes keep the camera slightly above you so it allows you to look up. If your hair is your selling point then volumeise; it may distract the attention from your face. If you have the perfect lips then look down towards the camera to outline its shape. Whatever it is, use it and work it.

5. Awareness

Lastly, don’t forget that the point behind this is to raise awareness for breast cancer not for you to get tons of likes. So if it isn’t your best picture don’t worry. Its not supposed to be.
