Controversial Godfrey Bloom to speak at KCL

Notorious ex-UKIP big dog to make an appearance at ‘Blooming Europe!’ debate

The notorious Godfrey Bloom, former MEP, has been invited to speak at King’s by the KCL Conservative Society.

He’s the man deemed too outrageous for even UKIP after being ousted from the party – and now he’s making a shock appearance at a KCL debate on May 1st.

Vilified for branding party activists ‘sluts’ during his appointment as UKIP MEP, Bloom was forced to step down – despite Nigel Farage’s assertions that he did not wish his colleague to be ‘hounded out of the party’.

From there Bloom, who is now an Independent MEP, has gone from woman-bashing to disability-mocking, by asking David Browne, a student at Oxford, if he was “Richard III or not?”.

And let’s not forget his infamous reference to ‘bongo bongo’ land.

Ben Judge, president of the society, has been ridiculed for his choice of speaker for ‘Blooming Europe!’, the KCLCS and Bow Students King’s spring debate.

Having wholeheartedly supported Labour candidate, Robbie Hirst, for the student elections last month, this swing to the other end of the political spectrum could be too much for some to handle.

King’s Slate – Robbie Hirst’s left-leaning party

The event has been postponed until May 1st after the society tried to sell tickets at the exorbitant price of £18 each.

It was scheduled to take place at the Warwick in Soho, yet idealistic fantasies had to be reigned in slightly after they failed to sell enough tickets to make it worthwhile.

Jacob Diamond, one staunch critic of KCLCS told The Tab:

“Godfrey Bloom is an incredibly stupid and offensive man. Only the person who invited him thinking it would be a good idea could be called more brainless … or Ben Judge. Godfrey Bloom can make for great entertainment no doubt, but surely only to laugh at – something I imagine KCLCS never to do.”
