Spring has sprung! The best places to enjoy the sun in London

Congratulations! We made it through the most depressing two months of the year. You’re probably confused – so here’s what to do now.

Spring is under-way, the long Easter Holidays are on the horizon (let’s ignore the prospect of revision for now, please…) and the much-missed sunlight seems to make our student stresses melt away.

So emerge from the cocoon of your desk/bed/gloomy corner in the library and start making the most of the sun which is, at long last, gracing our skies.

As you know, there are countless options when you want to get some fresh air in London, but here are five ideas to get you started:

1. Embankment

Whether you want to find a quiet bench overlooking the Thames and reflect on life’s many mysteries, or you’d prefer a group stroll down the riverside, there is something about being close to the river, and the view of the myriad of landmarks which hug its side, which soothes the soul.

2. London Zoo

Zoos are definitely not just for the kids… and now that Sumatran tiger triplets have just been born there, you have the perfect excuse to go, even without any younger relatives to accompany/ drag along.

3. The Globe Theatre

If you’re craving a bit of culture, go and see a play in the open air at Shakespeare’s Globe theatre where you’ll be propelled back into Elizabethan times. And with groundling ticket prices as low as £10, this venture is pretty student-friendly too.

4. Hyde Park

Let’s face it; cliché or not, this notorious little haven amidst the rush of city life was always going to make the list. It may still be recovering from the chaos of Winter Wonderland, but it’ll be as green and picturesque as ever in no time. This is obviously a great spot to have a group get-together. Alternatively, just bring a book and your own company for a peaceful afternoon under the shade of a tree.

5. Somerset House Courtyard

This may be on the doorstep of fellow strand-dwellers but that’s no reason to overlook it. When the sun is shining, few places look quite so majestic and it’s the perfect spot to have lunch al-fresco on a weekday.
