Huge new accommodation block to tower over Lime Street

It could be home to over 370 of us

A massive new accommodation block will tower above Lime Street Station – pending its approval by city planning chiefs today.

The new halls are a 21 and 17 storey project that will sit behind the recently passed Lime Street regeneration proposals.

It will overlook the rail station and its surrounding areas.

This project will take up the 530 square meters of land bounded by Skelhorne Street, Bolton Street and Hilbre Street, placing it next to Grand Central, the Unite 13-storey, 7-block halls of residence.

Halls are fun

As well as the accommodation, there are plans for a hotel development on the same patch of land.

Of the two mixed developments, the tallest block will include at least 370 bedrooms and two ground retail units, while the developers want permission to use the 17-storey block for either another 192 bedroom accommodation block – or a 192 room hotel.

So halls

Labour councillors Nick Small and Sharon Sullivan have spoken of their support for the application which, they say, will enhance availability of accommodation for students.

The application is set to go before the council’s planning committee today.
