Varsity is today, and many of us JMU’ers are determined to win.

For those of you who don’t know, Varsity is the chance for John Moores to put Uni of in their place. The Tab spoke to those in charge of handling victory.

Men’s Football Team

Proud Co-Chairman of the football team

James Stephenson, John Moores Men’s Football Club Co-Chairman, said: “The boys are all buzzing for today, and preparations have been ongoing for the past week now.

“Last year it wasn’t our year, but this year it’s time for revenge, time to get those bragging rights and give the lads who are leaving the club this year a winning varsity victory they’ll never forget.”

Men’s Rugby League

Will Roper, Rugby League captain, said: “We are confident in getting a good result as we are coming into the game after some positive performances, where little errors have been made.

“We have had a good two weeks preparation for this game, and we know how they usually play, so our game plan will be focused on shutting them down.”

 Men’s Basketball Team

Like a pro

Michael Coumas, John Moores’ Men’s Basketball Team Captain, said: “We go out to win every game and it will be the best end for me when I graduate, as it’s been our most successful season in 10 years.

“To win Varsity will top it all off. I’m very lucky to be captain of such a strong squad.”

Golf Team

Captain Joe Maycock told The Tab: “We are quietly confident on helping take varsity back after our victory over them in the inaugural Liverpool universities golf competition two weeks ago.

“It will be tough going to Hoylake and beating them on their home course, but we have done it before and I know my players have it in their lockers to perform on the day.”

Women’s Rugby

Becca Roberts, John Moores’ Rugby Team Captain, said: “Varsity is the biggest game of the year for us, and we are all looking forward to a great game. The girls are all hyped up with the rivalry between the universities and it’s looking to be a great day for JMU women’s rugby.”

If you want to cheer us on, a shuttle bus will be leaving the John Foster building every half hour starting at 12pm.

Last year the opposition won and this year we’re going in for the kill.
