Girl has car crushed after tree falls on it

Thanks Storm Desmond

It’s been gale force winds and icy blasts all weekend, so most of us decided it was best to stay safe and dry indoors – and it’s a good job, too.

Just before 7pm on Saturday evening, a massive tree was brought down by the wintry gusts onto an unsuspecting car parked on Beresford Avenue, completely crushing the bonnet.

Despite allegations of the tree having taken down telephone wires overhead, the only confirmed casualty is the car belonging to one of Beresford’s students.

The tree blocked the whole road until around 8:30

The police eventually began clearing the tree away around an hour and a half later.

This tempestuous weather comes in a string of extreme storms sweeping up and down the country.

On Sunday, the BBC reported “tens of thousands of homes are without power after Storm Desmond caused severe flooding and travel disruption across northern England and parts of Scotland”.

All that remains

We urge everyone to take care when walking down the leafy suburban streets of our charming Hull: Desmond may not be finished with us yet.
