The Give Blood Society at Glasgow University needs you

It’s the easiest life you’ll ever save

If you’ve been wondering who the people in the blue t-shirts are hanging around outside the library, then wonder no more.

They’re members of Glasgow University’s Give Blood society and they’re encouraging as many students as possible to become regular blood donors.

The society was founded this year and runs stalls around campus for students to book blood donation appointments. They’re collaborating with the Haematology society to provide more information about blood donations and the impact they can have.

The Tab Glasgow spoke to Zara Bell, a member of the society, who said: “GUGB have loads of events coming up, including socials. We’re keen to get more people involved in promoting the cause – increasing awareness of the limitations of giving blood and how you can go about doing it.

“It doesn’t take much time and makes a huge difference.”

RT Maguire, another member, added: “It’s great to contribute to the greater good of society.”

You can donate blood six days a week at 8 Nelson Mandela Place, Glasgow city centre.

GUGB will also be starting blood donation excursions for GUSA which will make a huge difference to donation numbers.

Giving blood is one of the easiest ways that people can save a lives. Every year, 200,000 new donors are needed. However, the number of new donors has decreased by 40 per cent over the past decade – that’s why it’s important to get students involved now more than ever before.

Anyone from the ages of 17-66 and over 50kg can donate.
