Glasgow Uni students evacuated due to chemical spill

One student became ill as a result of the spill


There was a chemical spill at the University of Glasgow on Wednesday. 

The incident occurred at around 3pm. Fire crews, paramedics and an environmental protection unit were called to the scene.

 

Students had to be evacuated from the laboratory but the spillage was deemed not serious. The student who fell ill did not need further treatment after being checked by ambulance staff.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service sent crews from Yorkhill and Maryhill as well as an environmental protection unit.

A spokesman for Glasgow University said: “We can confirm that following an incident at one of our chemical laboratories a student was taken unwell.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Around 3pm on Wednesday emergency services were called to a chemical spillage in the chemistry department within Glasgow University.”
