£1 billion plan for new Glasgow campus at site of Western Infirmary

It looks so nice

After revealing in 2013 plans to buy the land that hosts the Western Infimary, the University of Glasgow has confirmed that the £1bn redevelopment project will get underway this year.

The 10 year project will see the site of the current hospital (between University Place and Church Street) transformed into a civic square, technological hub, and a “musuem quarter.”

The University of Glasgow will get the keys to the 14 acre site in April

Professor Anton Muscaletti, Vice Chancellor of the university, confirmed his excitement over the plans:

“Having the chance to purchase land just next door to us represents a huge opportunity for the university and the city of Glasgow.”

The land will come under university care in April, and work on the redevelopment is expected to start soon after.
