West End protest: Reclaim the night is back

Hundreds of men and women came together to show support

Last night hundreds of people flocked for the annual ‘Reclaim The Night’ event in protest of sexual assault throughout Glasgow.

A marcher speaking to the Tab said: “It’s very empowering.”

The event, which was put on by Glasgow’s Rape Crisis Centre, sent out a powerful message and one which many of locals felt strongly about.

The campaign will last for 16 days with various events to raise awareness for the cause.

Another marcher said: “It’s about trying to put a stop to the high levels of sexual abuse that still go on in todays society.”

The aim of the ‘Reclaim the Night’ campaign is to put a stop to the fear of walking home alone at night.

The key message is to put a stop to this fear by cracking down on rape in Glasgow.

The march was very positive, with students and families marching alongside each other through the West End, holding flags and banners.

And police confirmed: “The protest is always peaceful.”
