‘You idiotic waste of space’: Grumpy Paddy strikes again
Don’t just stand there
The outspoken English Lit prof who infamously placed a coughing ban on his lectures has shouted at his second years once again.
This time it was because a student came in five minutes late for the lecture.
Grouchy Paddy Lyons said: “If you’re gonna come in late, go to the overflow room, don’t come in and stand there like an idiotic waste of space.”

Paddy, an infamously outspoken man, previously said to his students: “If you’ve got a little cough thing, my advice is try and breathe from your diaphragm because then you won’t disturb everyone else.
“And more importantly, you won’t scatter your filthy little germs over everyone else, in particular me.”
Those who are taught by Paddy come to accept these mini-rants as part of his character.
One said: “To be fair to him, he is a very good lecturer.
“He’s a very comic character, and my friend lives near him and says he is actually really lovely when not in uni, but he just creates a very ‘us and them’ situation.”
Another student referring to Paddy’s clothes said: “He’s like the failed Soprano who decided to study English lit.”
Paddy’s usual outfit is a white shirt and a gold chain.
