Ed Sheeran stunned pub-goers last night when he joined a live band out of the blue.

The acclaimed singer was quietly drinking with friends in the Blue Dog Bar when he was spotted and invited to sing a set.

Law student Lauren Doherty was there with her boyfriend and couldn’t believe when the international ginger appeared out of the shadows to sing to the crowd:

“It was actually insane. There was a band performing and a couple other guys were performing. We were sitting away from the stage and we heard people start to say “Ed Sheeran!” so we walked to the stage and he just walked on.

“I think he was just invited onstage, I don’t think he was there to perform.

“He sang Britney Spears, Bon Jovi, and each time he invited people up to sing with him. A girl got up for Bon Jovi, and another guy got up and sang with him.

“I think he might have had a few drinks in him, I think he was quite merry. He was up there having a laugh, having banter with pals.

“We genuinely couldn’t believe he was actually here in this random bar in town. It wasn’t until I went up to see for myself that I realised it was genuinely him.

“Everyone in the bar was just in shock and I think 90 per cent of the bar had their phones out recording.

“Even the people behind the bar some of them were standing up recording it – even they didn’t know what was going on.

“It was around midnight and he sang happy birthday to someone random that was in the bar.

“He was so so good live, I couldn’t believe it. His voice is really amazing.

“The girls were screaming. He took his jacket off to sing the song and I’ve nevert heard girls scream so much over someone taking off a jacket.

“He got swept away in the crowd after but he stayed outside taking photos with people for ages. He stopped and spoke to people to outside.

“He was there with a group of people but I never saw him walk in or anything, which is why I’m confused as to how he ended up there. There was a corner that was barred off so maybe he was in there.

“He seemed really down to earth which was quite surprising. Considering he was in a small bar in Glasgow and decided to give us a free show. He seemed lovely.”
