We asked the locals what they think of us…

And for some reason they love us

The Tab took to the mean streets of the West End this week to find out what locals really think of UofG students.

We were surprised to find out it’s not our hygeine, drunkeness, volume or accents that people hate.

In fact, we’re almost too good.

The results were overwhelmingly, disappointingly, positive.

Either West Enders are just ridiculously polite, or we’re being poor excuses for students.

Eddie, 64

West Ender Eddie, thinks we’re “nice people”.

But mainly he just likes us because of our money:

“Students bring prosperity to the area – they spend money at bars and shops.”

Yeah, we’ll take that.

 Gillian, 34

Gillian, 34

Ex-Glasgow student can’t let it go: “I love the Uni and I love the students.

“The university is all about diveristy, multi-culturalism, history, tradition… and fun of course.

“The students represent this really well.”

Her one-year-old baby also commented that he respected the cultural blend of Scottish students, and Northern Irish students.

Jim, 84

Local Jim talked mostly about his grandson (congrats on the girlfriend, Tom).

But he did say the uni “really livens up Glasgow”, before heading into M&S.

Chantal, 49

Chantal was also appreciative of students, but again, mainly because we “bring a lot of money to the area”.

But she also said we were “young, bright, vibrant and intelligent”, so we’ll let her off, and maybe take her out for a drink.

 Martin, 35

Martin wouldn’t settle for anything less than a selfie.

We found a big fan in Martin: “I’m extremely proud of the university, and of the students.

“The students are championing Glasgow University – you’re doing a great job.”

Martin, we’re blushing over here. We could barely stand up for this selfie without swooning all over Byres Road.

Billy, 58

Glaswegian music fan Billy, seemed to know our flaws a little better than the rest.

“I go to a lot of student gigs, and the worst thing about student gigs is the students.

“You could have the Rolling Stones on the QMU stage and all they’d be interested in is the fact that beer is 30p a pint”.

Admittedly, the man has a point. But he ended by saying “the area really misses them when they go home”.

So basically, we’re a roaring success all round.

Are we sure we’re doing this ‘student’ thing right?
