The Cheat Sheet: We asked five students their ‘easy subject’ choices

You’re welcome.

Looking for an easy third subject to take alongside your main studies? Of course you are.

We asked five students how to get that easy pass in your first and second year.

Elliott Renforth, second-year Archaeology

Archaeology might be the way forward for all the history-loving party-goers at Glasgow: “I took Archaeology 1B, because I’m in interested in history and thought that this would be another branch to take in it.

“I only went to one lecture in the end, because I was partying.

“I still passed though, and would definitely recommend it.”

“The good thing about this course was that you didn’t need to go to the lectures because all the videos of the lectures went online.”

Callum Smith, graduate in French and Theatre Studies

“The famous easy one that lots of people did was ‘Exploring the Cosmos’ in Astronomy.”

Zoe Botterman, Pharmacology

“It was actually my advisor that told me how easy Exploring The Cosmos is.

“I went for the first few lectures, absolutely hated it, and it didn’t interest me at all, felt like a cop out subject that I didn’t need to attend the lectures for, so I didn’t attend for the rest of the semester.

“The lectures are actually pointless, because everything is on the powerpoint. I still passed even though I didn’t go to lectures, and only briefly revised the night before.”

Hattie Ellis, second-year Pharmacology

“My easy course was Forensic Medicine.

“I loved studying it, it was very interesting and they brought in lots of specialist lecturers and people who worked in that field.

“I did that with biology and chemistry and it was just three lectures a week, so no labs, very few contact hours and so it was a nice break from the really gruelling science lectures.

“They actually thought about ending it last semester, but after our positive feedback,  they brought it back.

“You can actually take it even if you aren’t a law student or science student. It’s just one essay and one exam, quite easy to prepare for.”

Conor O’Donnelly, second-year Theatre Studies

“Film and Television Studies is pretty easy but you do need to put the work in. It was easy because once you get your head wrapped round the initial concept and ideas it is quite straightforward.

“The lectures are mostly multimedia based, clips of films and a powerpoint and a lecturer talking. It was all based around working with the text.

“I would definitely recommend it for people choosing subjects next year.”
