Here are the Exeter University accommodations as songs from Charli XCX’s latest album, Brat
Brat and it’s the same except it’s Exeter uni halls so it’s not
It’s officially a Brat summer. Green is everywhere, everyone is SO Julia and the Brat album is on repeat. Everyone is obsessed with Charli XCX’s Brat. This hyper pop album is inescapable – there are endless memes, TikToks, remixes and politicians are even hopping on the bandwagon. With Brat being the IT girl this summer, we thought we would bring Brat energy to Exeter.
Exeter uni is known to “bleed green”. With the Brat album being green, it’s obvious that UoE is an OG Brat. So, let’s brat-ify the Exeter uni halls. Whether you are joining Exeter in September or wanting to reminisce on your old, beloved, first year uni halls. Here’s Exeter first year accom and what Brat song their vibe fits into.
New Laf – 365
Starting off strong, we have New Lafrowda as 365. Lafrowda is known as the party accommodation, where all the pres are held and where the loud noise stems from. New Laf just screams “365 party girl”. The people in this accom are always the first to go out, go on benders and attend every lecture hungover (bold of me to assume they actually attend lectures). They never turn down a Fever Monday, Cavern Tuesday, TP Wednesday or even a Dirty Beats Thursday. If you’re thinking of living in New Laf for first year, be ready for the endless hosting and endless visits from Estate Patrol about noise.
Old Laf – Girl, So Confusing
On the flip side, we have Old Lafrowda. The OG Lafrowda that even have their own Brat green walls (The OG Brat). For Old Laf, their Brat song would be Girl, So Confusing. They are constantly compared to New Laf and always shunned away by New Laffers. Like New Laf, Old Laf are also massive, wild party animals – arguably, more wild than New Laf. They are just misunderstood. Old Laf and New Laf need to work it out on the remix.
East Park – Club Classics
East Park is, of course, Club Classics. From my experience, East Park was always the place for flat parties, pres and chaos. This new accom holds all the people who like to pre hard and want to boogie away to those club classics on the top top floor of TP. They are also the type to wear rave sunglasses in Fever room one. You already know someone in East Park will have a huge speaker playing Club Classics by Charli XCX outside on the East Park stairs at 4AM. They never know when to call it a night.
Holland Hall – Von dutch
The lyric, “it’s okay to admit that you’re obsessed with me” massively resonates with Holland Hall. It’s no surprise that everyone is jealous of Holland Hall. If you happen to stumble upon Holland Hall, be ready to hear the word “rah” every two seconds. This accom is known for its posh “Exetah” guys and gals, known for its double beds and beautiful views. With this accom being the best of the best, they are really living that life, von dutch.
Birks – Sympathy is a knife
For Birks, they would be Sympathy is a Knife. As their accommodation has the devastation of dealing with Cardiac Hill to get onto central campus, I think the lyrics to this song defo resonates with them. Especially as they are told that everyone feels bad for them for having to constantly go up those dreaded stairs – all that “sympathy is a lie”.
Duryard – B2b
Duryard would definitely be B2b. As they are so far from central campus and town, I think a lot of Duryarders would say they lyric “I don’t wanna go back, back to, back to, back to, back to” Duryard after a night out as they cba for the long walk home. They also have to deal with Cardiac Hill, of course they don’t want to go back home after a Fever Monday (they defo get taxis everywhere).
Lopes Hall – Everything is Romantic
Lopes is definitely Everything is Romantic. I don’t know why, but this accom just gives good vibes all year round. With a tennis court, dining room and beautiful gardens, you can really romanticise your first year at uni in this accom. People in Lopes Hall are the type who want a peaceful life, who want to frolick and play tennis with their buddies. For them, life is good and everything is romantic x
Rowe House – Guess
Rowe House would be Guess. They are allusive, mysterious but also a bit wild. As they are opposite from Lafrowda, they always seem to venture to Laf pres, which adds to their mysterious aura. They are an accom that gets forgotten about (not as bad at Point Exe though) but they still have a vibe to them. They still know how to party and be a Brat, even if you have to guess where their accommodation actually is.
Mardon Hall – Apple
Mardon Hall would be Apple as they are the BTEC version of Holland Hall. Especially with Mardon being catered accom, it’s easy to say that the apple’s rotten right to the core from all the things passed down from all the apples before (as in, Holland is their mother). I don’t know much about Mardon Hall, but I know they are always compared to Holland – maybe they should work it out on the remix too?
Moberly – 360
Moberly is SO Julia. Like Lafrowda, Moberly is always partying but they know they are that girl. Although they are also on the far side of campus and are faced with Cardiac Hill, Moberly loves being everyone’s favourite reference. I have to say, their rooms and kitchen looks proper boujee (but probably wouldn’t be saying that after Freshers’ week).
Penny Court – Talk Talk
Tbh, I’ve never visited Penny C myself, but they always seem to be mentioned on Overheard? So, I guess their song would be Talk Talk as everyone seems to be talking about them. They are a catered and en-suite accom, so they really got a lot going on. Of course, everyone is gonna be talking about them.
