The Tab Exeter is looking for writers and we want YOU

You don’t need any experience at all

Are you an aspiring journalist? A hilarious writer? A jokes meme lord or a film-maker? If you are, The Exeter Tab wants you to join our team.

The Exeter Tab is written by Exeter students, for Exeter students. Our open meeting is on Monday 25th November at 18:00 in The Ram. Anyone is free to turn up, and more details can be found here.

If you’re unsure about what The Tab is, or how you can get involved, you’ll find all the information below:

What is The Tab?

The Tab is a student news site with over six million monthly readers. As a student writer, your stories will be shared on The Exeter Tab Facebook page, to a readership of 15,000 Exeter uni students – the best are shared across all of our pages, and can reach readers all over the country.

We break the biggest stories on campus. Last year, The Exeter Tab broke the news that members of the Bracton Law Society were part of a racist group chat. Other stories we covered included Exeter campus on lockdown after a student made threats with a gun, and the ExeHonestly racism scandal.

Hundreds of stories published originally on The Tab have made national news, we exposed the Warwick boys who made rape jokes in their group chat, the Coventry dodgeball team who wore anti-semetic slogans on their white t-shirt social, and the Cambridge student who set fire to a £20 note in front of a homeless man.

Why should I write for The Tab and not somewhere else?

Writing for The Exeter Tab, your stories will reach thousands of student readers, and while your stories won’t be printed, you’ll get a much better understanding of how modern news media actually works.

The team works with an Assistant Editor based at Tab HQ in London. They provide training in the basics of reporting, and quality advice on how to make your writing stand out you won’t get anywhere else.

Tab alumni frequently go on to work for famous publications all over the world, including VICE, The Times, and Vogue. Just this year, former Tab student writers started jobs at The Telegraph, The Sun, and Cosmopolitan.

How can I get involved?

It’s simple. If you’re keen you can:

Click attending on our Facebook event.

DM us on Instagram.

Message our Facebook page.

We meet every week in Devonshire House. It’s a chilled set-up and we do socials all the time.

If news isn’t your thing, there’s loads of other things we do. Our student writers produce some of the funniest features you’ll ever read. Some of our best include a definitive ranking of Exeter's cheesy chips and the worst student meals to come out of Exeter.

We’re also looking for people to run our Instagram! If you consider yourself a meme connoisseur, or you want to try making fun original video, we’d love to have you.

If you have any questions, or can’t make the open meeting, message our page or our Instagram!
