‘White power’ stickers were put up along the Quayside last night

It is thought it happened in response to the Trump protest

In what may have been a response to the peaceful protest, “white power” stickers have appeared overnight in the City.

The stickers call for white people to “wake up” and were plastered onto bollards along Exeter’s Quayside area. It is thought it happened in response to the Trump protest that occurred last night.

Thankfully, staff at the Prospect Pub were quick to remove the offensive stickers and notified the Police and City Council.

The city’s Labour MP Ben Bradshaw condemned the spreading of such “filth”.

“There is no place for racism or neo-Nazism in Britain or Exeter,” he told the Express and Echo.“Ours is a successful, tolerant and forward-looking city. I congratulate staff at the Prospect Inn for removing this filth so quickly. In the wake of the Brexit vote in Britain and Trump’s election in America, we need to be extremely vigilant about the tiny number of people in Britain who hold racist or neo-Nazi views and might feel they now have a licence to come out of the woodwork.”

As with the rise in racist behaviour following the UK’s Brexit result, it seems the election of Donald Trump is triggering another rise in racist behaviour in the UK. However, the flames of racist, misogynistic, xenophobic fear-mongering must be fanned no longer- the protest against Donald Trump was not only a important event for those involved, but also has a wider significance in demonstrating the importance of solidarity against hate.
