Exeter to waive tuition fees for Asylum seekers

The uni will only charge them £9,000

The university has decided to waver tuition fees for asylum seekers.

This comes in the wake of the refugee crisis, in which hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees have come to Europe to escape their war torn home, and seek a better life for their families.

While this may seem like a small gesture, it shows a great desire to welcome those who have been dreadfully displaced.

The university has said the waver is available for “asylum seekers, children of asylum seekers or unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.”

They will allow asylum seekers, who would normally be charged fees meant for international students, to pay £9,000 – meant for UK students.

But ultimately it is up to the university’s discretion when the person in question’s case is yet to be decided.

Students have previously shown solidarity with Syrian refugees, during a vigil earlier this academic year.
