MP’s talk interrupted by ‘friendly’ protesters

Are you being Syrias

| UPDATED

Yesterday Labour MP Ben Bradshaw came to Exeter to give a talk on the EU in a small seminar room to a select group of students.

However given the recent vote on military action in Syria, some socialists were a bit peeved of at this so staged a protest which was publicised on the Momentum Exeter Facebook group.

Marcel Dalton, PPE student and protest organiser told The Tab: “Everyone was really upset about the vote in parliament and for everybody who expected that the Tories would vote through bombing Syria there were some people who were surprised that so-called left wing Labour MPs like Ben Bradshaw were supporting them”

“We don’t want to talk about the EU. Not now.

“Not two days after he’s made the most important decision that will have the gravest consequences for Syrian people. That’s not on. We want to hold him to account about Syria.”

Cassie Martin, Childcare apprentice who also took part in the protest   said “I think it’s wrong that we’re going to be bombing Syria because we’re going to be killing innocent civilians and it’s not going to help defeat ISIS, it’s just encouraging them.

“It’s stupid. You can never fight violence with violence.”

When Ben Bradshaw walked past the protesters they chanted: “1,2,3,4 we don’t want another War. 5,6,7,8 stop the bombing stop the hate.”

After his talk the Labour MP said that the protest had been “one of the friendliest he had ever encountered.”

Later a silent candle vigil organised by the Socialist society took place in Bedford square and a silent sit-in against the decision to bomb Syria will take place on the 7th December.
