Lemmy get this straight

It is the club we all love to hate

Ah the lemmywith its notoriously sticky floor and its school disco vibe our Student Guild club is generally considered to be a bit shit. However, “The Lemon Grove” shouldn’t leave a bitter taste in your mouth.

On the contrary, the Lemmy is where sweet first year memories are made and if you’re lucky enough to live in Lafrowda or Exeter Halls, you’re within chundering distance and can therefore escape the humiliation of a ride home with Estate Patrol.

The majority of freshers flock there every Saturday night but now with the addition of a new Indie night on a Wednesday there’ll be even more opportunities to wait in a long queue, get shit-faced on VKs and inevitably find yourself stuck to the dancefloor.

Despite the Lemmy’s somewhat bad rep, expectations are still high and you’ll always find some freshers in the queue who are on the verge of discovery.

When The Tab asked Andrew Collins19, a Medicine fresher and Lemmy virign what he expected from his night he said “Drinks. Happiness. Good times.” India Gabbin, 18, an English Literature fresher also replied “A sticky floorwe’ve heard about the sticky floor. So fingers crossed it’ll be good. We usually go to Arena.”

Can you ever be too old to go to the Lemmy? Not according to Joey Schuster, PGCE student, who told us “I’m 21. How old can you be? I’ve met 24 year olds here so I’m definitely young enough”.

Inside the Lemmy, the crowd is generally on top form. Freshers lock tongues with people they’ll probably have to sit next to in lectures for the next three years, the drinks flow and Mr Brightside blasts from the DJ booth.

Some  criticise the layout of the Lemmy since the bar and the dancefloor are sort of split up, but the various booths and wide choice of seating areas generally lends itself to a chilled atmosphere. A place where you can actually chat without having to shout over the music and, if you’re lucky, you’ll make some friends with whom you’ll perhaps bond over a mutual love for skittle bombs.

Leone, a Law third year told said “I love the lemmy because I know all my friends are going to be here and it’s just a really good night out.

“It may not be the best surroundings but you know that you’re going to have cheap drinks and good music”

Despite its mediocrity, its occasional overflowing toilets and crap music the Lemmy will always hold a place in our hearts.
