JK Rowling is going to be Exeter Uni’s new Chancellor

Best-selling author JK Rowling is going to be the University of Exeter’s new chancellor.

After a call from the Guild for suggestions, an overwhelming number of you submitted her as your number one choice for the position.

Pretty much the most famous person to have ever gone to uni here, Rowling graduated in 1986 and will be returning to her alma mater in 2016 to begin this crucial role.

We were all shocked and saddened by the news of Floella Benjamin stepping down as university chancellor, but none more so than the unfortunate first years who were left questioning the point of graduating without a performance by Floella Benjamin’s band at Grad ball, and not to mention one of her legendary hugs at graduation itself.

You all wanted it

But lucky freshers shouldn’t fret anymore because bar Play School’s hardcore fans, being congratulated by the author of the Harry Potter series in front of all of their friends and family is a little more of an exciting prospect.

The exact role of chancellor besides shaking graduates’ hands (or hugging them, if she’s as touchy-feely as Flo) and making the odd public appearance remains unclear to most students, but who cares as long as there’s a possible photo op for a new Facebook profile picture.
