Wednesday will see the opening night of a show which promises to be one of the best productions to hit Exeter this term. The film was recently released to great acclaim, but don’t cop out, make sure you catch the play, too.
Set in Oklahoma, the play follows the lives of a drug-addled mother and her dysfunctional family, who have all returned to the family home after their father goes missing.
The Tab were lucky enough to get a preview of a few scenes and it looks like EUTCO have got a stunning production lined up. With a tight-knit cast (all maintaining convincing southern accents throughout) you really feel like you’re in the mad house.
The play is set to be both touching and hilarious, with humour used to break up the rather dark themes (“What kind of man can’t drive? I’ve seen a chimp drive!”).
One key thing to look out for is the innovative use of the stage. To get the feel of the house a scaffolding company have been called in to recreate the house on stage.
This design means that the cast have a constant presence in the house and makes the play much more convincing.
After seeing the preview, it was immediately obvious that this is a show not to be missed. With tickets at just £8 you’d be a fool to miss it.
