EURFC Trio Named in England Students Squad
EURFC members to face Portugal later on this month
• Jamie Gray, Rob Coote and Ollie Claxton named in squad
• University of Exeter boasts second highest number of players
• Former EURFC Captain Matt Chambers also features
After being named in the 22-man squad, three EURFC members will be travelling to Lisbon in later on this month to face Portugal, the world’s 22nd ranked rugby side.
EURFC Club Captain Jamie Gray is joined in the side by fellow third year, Rob Coote, both playing in the fixture for the second year running. BNOC of the Year finalist and second year Ollie Claxton will make the journey.
Exeter’s strong representation bodes well for their upcoming varsity fixture against University of Bath – only Cardiff Met have more representatives in the squad.
University of Exeter alumni and former EURFC Captain, Matt Chambers, now studying at University College London, has also made the cut.
Coote, a scrum-half, and Gray, a formidable second row, have both have received caps for the Exeter Chiefs this season.
Claxton, meanwhile, also a scrum half, continues to ply his trade with the Taunton Titans and remains a member of the Chiefs Academy.
After a run of three defeats in three years, England Students finally got the better of the Portuguese last year, running out 25-20 winners.
The fixture promises to be tight: the last 4 games have been decided by less than five points. Naturally, The Tab wishes the side all the best for the upcoming fixture.
