St Luke’s Plans Get Office-Blocked

Council shoots down University plans for St. Luke’s expansion.

University of Exeter plans to convert and extend former student accommodation block have been denied by Devon County Council.

The University wanted to create a massive four storey office development for its medical department on St Luke’s campus in which hundreds of staff would be based.

However, Exeter’s planning committee has had to defer its decision after the highways authority claimed the University had failed to provide an adequate transport assessment and recommended refusal.

The campus is known for its historic beauty

In its report, Devon County Council said “the applicant has not even provided a transport strategy to clarify additional car-borne trips that it is expected to attract” because car parking on the site is already at capacity.

For now, the University has deferred its decision so a transport assessment and development plan for other parts of the site can be formulated.

So watch this space, with big plans in the pipeline St Luke’s may never be the same again. (Let’s just hope they don’t go too wild and change the Bop.)
