Not gonna lie, we all love a couple of bevvies every now and then. However, sometimes (just sometimes) it’s nice to just do something a bit different and possibly even cultural!

Yeah, we do have some pretty decent pubs in Exeter and one of the largest Wetherspoons in the country, but when you fancy giving your liver (and your wallet) a break, here’s a few places we think you should check out.

Picturehouse

Anyone who was subjected to the two-hour-long travesty that was Riddick will know it’s tough to find quality cinema nowadays. So we bring you Picturehouse, a cinema located on 51 Bartholomew St W where you can watch the best independent films, or revel in the latest quality releases.

Tea On The Green

It’s almost a betrayal not to enjoy a nice cup of tea in this country. And you’ll find some of the best at 2 Cathedral Green, in Tea on the Green. Be warned: the combination of people watching and Earl Grey may prevent you from leaving. Ever.

MakeArt

Particularly appealing to all those maths students harbouring a secret passion for art, MakeArt is a café on Fore Street where you can – that’s right – make art. Enjoy a tea or coffee and don’t be ashamed to take home that colourful new friendship bracelet you slaved over.

Underground Passages

For you history buffs and spelunking enthusiasts, the Exeter Underground Passages are a must see. Running below High Street, these medieval tunnels are a great place to visit – the reception is located at 2 Paris Street.

Quayside

Probably one of the most diverse and underappreciated attractions you’ll come across in Exeter, the Quayside is just ten minutes walk from the city centre and boasts gorgeous views, picturesque cruises, canoeing, and delicious riverside picnics from the local pubs and restaurants.
