Going on a date with someone may not be the most important thing on your mind during your first few weeks, but I’m sure that many of you have already seen someone you really like the look of. Exeter is brimming with great date locations destined to make sure that you and that boy/girl from your seminar are more than just friends!

Here at The Tab Exeter, we’ve even done the legwork for you and have compiled a list of the top places to suit any kind of date in order to give you a good idea of what’s available! Aren’t we great!

1) Mama Stone’s

Chilled atmosphere, live music, great drinks. Owned by Joss Stone’s mum – as if that isn’t cool enough – the atmosphere is relaxed, particularly if the bands playing meet your taste in music.

They also have a great range of drinks too and if you fancy going for a meal, there’s everything from enchiladas to nachos. A great way to impress your date particularly if you’re into your Mexican…

2) Rougemont Gardens

Described as ‘a gem set in the heart of Exeter’ this is a great place for you lovers of the outdoors. Rougemont Gardens near Castle Street, is close to the city centre while also being quite and relaxed enough for a nice picnic. It is also the site of a famous twelfth-century siege (your date might be impressed by how cultural you are!)

3) Old Firehouse

If you fancy a mulled wine and some great music in the run up to Christmas time, the Old Firehouse is definitely the best place to go to. Rumour has it that this place actually inspired the Leaky Cauldron in Harry Potter. If J.K. Rowling loved it, you’ll love it too. Just make sure you don’t choose to go on one of the busiest nights as nothing ruins a date more than an awkward seating situation!

4) Bikeshed Theatre

You don’t have to be a lover of the theatre to appreciate Bikeshed Theatre. It’s an ideal place to go for a date, since great plays are offered at very reasonable prices. Hailed as another ‘hidden gem’ of Exeter, this place is also off the beaten track and a great alternative date location.

5) Boston Tea Party

Whether you fancy a classic club sandwich, spiced red lentil, or afternoon tea, Boston Tea Party is a great place to go on a date because of its varied menu, good prices, and easy location. Try and nab one of the comfy sofas upstairs for a chance to cosy up to your date later on.
