PearShaped’s Exeter launch night based promised to be something special. Despite the constant onslaught of rain, The Tab went down to check it out.

In place of Ella Janes, Exeter student Tom Elliot took to the stage with his acoustic guitar and the appearance of a taller and thinner Ed Sheeran. His bright voice surprised with a dry, smokey, country and western twist kept his growing crowd enthralled. Rounding off the set was a cover of Alt J’s ‘Tessellate‘, getting the night off to a promising start.

Hot on Tom Elliot’s heels, ‘Lion The Weak‘ stepped out a bit too cool-for-school – both in the way they looked and sounded (think lovechild of Arctic Monkeys and Foals) with frontman Jack Shepherd staying cool and quietly confident throughout. The well-written songs sounded massive on stage, attracting curious listeners closer and then keeping them close.

Isaac Indiana announced their arrival of light hearted indie straight from the off, with bags of energy and some massive grooves to a packed room. The songs were easy to listen to and had everyone grooving throughout The Cavern. Standout moments from their set include a huge cover of  Fatboy Slim’s ‘Praise You‘ before moving into Rudimental and Frontman’s ‘Feel the Love‘. Throughout their set, Andy Jackson provided a source of energetic, friendly fun – a real party starter!

Following the live music DJ’s Francis Red and Moe Jatthews injected serious funk into the night and kept people dancing into the small hours.

The Tab says: PearShaped, you nailed it! The mix of talented live indie acts and DJs had everyone smiling all night. Exeter students, you now have a quality alternative to ‘Cheesy Tuesdays’ that you seriously need to check out!
