Getting Kinky in The Cavern!

Tired of the same old music around Exeter? Get Kinky at The Cavern, says Maya Mills.

Kink The Cavern the tab the tab exeter

So, we’ve all experienced the chaos of Wednesday Timepiece and the stench of Thursday Arena, and if you’re yet to experience these delights as a Fresher, then welcome to Exeter.

What you’ll find that all these nights have in common, however is the same monotonous top 40 music, week in, week out.

Luckily for any alternative music lovers, this is where your friendly neighbourhood music connoisseur Lewis Lawrence saves the day.

Every other Wednesday, we will see new live bands from across the country hosted at Exeter’s funky venue, The Cavern.

Not only will there be popular live music to kick off the evening until around 11pm, but these gigs will be followed up by local DJs from Exeter and Bristol, continuing the evening with anything from house to rap and hip-hop.

The idea now means Exeter can regularly accommodate a far broader variety of music, whilst keeping each night slightly different and more interesting with a different headline act every fortnight.

When speaking to the man behind the mission, Lawrence explained his idea further: “KINK is a night for students who want good live music and then dance afterwards.”

“On the whole, I think the live music scene in Exeter is pretty poor. I’m thinking of introducing some alt-80s music and some old school hip hop, too.

“I’m trying to make a night that I know I’d like to attend as a student…we’re the only student night in the Cavern now!

“Such an adventure,” he added, “has been initiated for students, by students.”

Kink’s first gig is headlining electronic-pop sensation Mausi, supported by the funky sounds of Dive In.

Set to be held on 9th October 2013, Kink has kindly invited The Tab to their first gig, so stay tuned for the next review.

Until then, Kink have been kind enough to collaborate a playlist on Soundcloud to give us all a taste of nights yet to come, check it out here:
