On the back of an outstanding season with EUWRFC and England, first XV captain Amber Reed has been named BUCS Sportswoman of the Year 2013.

The fly-half led her side to BUCS gold glory at Twickenham this season with a 17-15 win over Cardiff Metropolitan “University”, as well as starting every game in the Six Nations for England, where she was the top points scorer.

Reed, chatting to us from New Zealand, described her winning as both “a massive honour” and “a little bit of a shock”.

“There are a lot of talented athletes here in the UK who would have been worthy winners,” she said.

“I feel very privileged to be named BUCS sportswoman of the year. I have been very lucky with all the opportunities and support I have revived both at a university and international level.”
