Exams are over, the sun is shining and the biggest summer sporting event at university is nearly upon us: the cricket varsity.

This bank holiday Monday, the Exeter University First XI will battle against university rivals Bath in what will no doubt be a feast of high quality cricket action in the sun.

The green army go into the game undefeated and have already dispatched Cambridge and Loughborough MCCU’s, lying undefeated in their BUCS Premier A division.

Exeter’s first team captain Joe Barrs can’t wait for the game, saying “we have had a fantastic start to the season and gained huge confidence from our back to back BUCS wins. We take great momentum into Monday’s game and will certainly put in another winning performance”.

After a hugely successful season off the pitch with EUMCC winning the prestigious Ashes cricket competition and running the between the wickets marathon in aid of CLIC Sargent: the chosen charity for tomorrow’s game, the boys will be hoping for a huge level of support to cheer them to victory against Bath in the Varsity, sponsored by Kingfisher Beer.

The game will be played at Exeter Cricket Club, opposite Rowe House, and is just a 1-minute walk away from the Forum.

Tickets are available through all members of the cricket club or at the gate, which is open from 11.30 onwards, with the first ball being bowled at 12.30.

Not only will a £4 ticket get you the highest quality cricketing action this side of Somerset but there will also be a live DJ, a hog roast, a charity raffle, a Timepiece bar serving beers, ciders and the best tasting Pimm’s you could imagine and much more.

It really is set to be an amazing day in the sun and a sporting event that surely cannot be missed on the university calendar. Come along tomorrow, bring your friends and help cheer on the green army to victory. We look forward to seeing everyone there. For more details visit the Facebook event.
